Central to our practice is the participation in research assignments and competitions. All our public building projects to-date have been acquired by competition wins. These include the elephant enclosure in Zurich Zoo, the public pools in Dübendorf, the Reichstag visitors’ centre in Berlin, the university building in Brig and the crematorium in Thun. We are currently a team of 14 architects, who are given the opportunity to follow projects from design phase and detail design, through to execution and site management.

Markus Schietsch Architects focuses on the design of well-planned, sustainable buildings, the inventive use of building materials and the integral relationship between the building and its context. Good proportions, rhythm and light are central elements in our compositions. We use a carefully selected palette of materials, specific to each project to create powerful spaces. Working in close collaboration with numerous specialists, we are able to deliver all phases of a project from concept design through to the finished building. Our aim is to create spatially conceptual architecture with strong forms that is robust, functions well, while also having a strong expression.
