The project envisions the care home as a house in the park and a vibrant meeting place for the local community. Its polygonal form blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape, offers expansive views across the valley and creates a clear distinction between public communal areas and protected living and retreat spaces.
The architecture draws inspiration from the traditional village structures of Valais: groups of resident rooms form small houses, while naturally lit circulation spaces are conceived as internal lanes and squares. Generous communal areas, a central lightwell and private loggias foster orientation, social interaction and quality of living. A dedicated dementia care unit with its own sheltered garden completes the diverse range of living environments.
A compact building design, a flexible concrete structural system, locally sourced spruce finishes and a distinctive Valais-style gabled roof combine economic efficiency with a warm, residential atmosphere. Geothermal probes, heat pumps, photovoltaic systems and recycled concrete form the basis of an energy-efficient and resource-conscious operation. The result is a sustainable living environment that brings together a sense of security, community and a close connection to nature.
