AVS Canton Zug 2011–2017 Public Building Canton Zug Steinhausen, Switzerland Competition, 1st Prize
John Lemmenmeier, Philipp Heidemann, Markus Schietsch, Markus Weissenmayer CHF 21.2 Mio.

The building has been organised around a large light-filled atrium, which forms the central communal space at the heart of the building. A spiral staircase links the levels and forms a vertical accent in the open space.

The new office building for consumer protection creates a clear order and new references in its heterogeneous context. Designed as a compact structure, the square floor plan accommodates various uses across the three floors. The two lower levels are used by AVS with offices on the ground floor and laboratories on the first floor, while the upper floor is rentable office space.

With its square floor plan, the triple-storey structure is organised around a large central atrium reminiscent of an Italian palazzo. Accordingly, the different uses of the levels are reflected in the differentiated façade. The laboratories on the upper floor form the building’s piano nobile in accordance with the import role they play for the business.

The building is organised around a large atrium. This is the heart of the building, forming the central communication space and giving the building a sense of identity. The various spaces are also visually linked to one another via the triple-storey void. This atrium void gives the employees the opportunity to be in constant contact, to exchange ideas and to create a creative and productive working atmosphere.
